Germany-based solar developer, IBC Solar has completed a 27 MW solar PV plant in the district of Kalahandi, western Odisha.

The Sadipali project – part of the 270 MW PV tender floated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in the state in August 2016 – has been installed across 111 acres of land. Construction began last November.

IBC Solar was awarded the project through a competitive reverse auction process, and secured non-recourse project financing with L&T Infrastructure Finance Company Limited totaling around INR 980 million (US$15.3 million). It signed a 20 year PPA with SECI last August.

The company said the project represents its largest single location plant, and also its first project in India that it fully developed, financed, constructed and commissioned. Overall, it has a strong pipeline of projects underway in the country.

“While states like Rajasthan, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh already have a large share of solar power with more than 2 Gigawatts installed capacity each, the state of Odisha lags behind with approx. 90 MW installed capacity (by autumn 2017) and has only recently begun to try and pick up speed,” said the company in a statement released. It added, “With the newly connected PV plant, IBC Solar is supporting Odisha to increase its share of solar power by around 30%.”

In related news, Indian company, Sunsure Energy Pvt. Ltd has installed 20 MW across two PV projects in the state of Karnataka.

Both the 15 MW and 5 MW plants are located in Harpanhalli Taluka of the Davangeri District, across 75 acres of land. They will generate enough clean energy to power more than 8,000 urban households, annually, for the next 25 years, said the company. The energy is being delivered to distribution companies, BESCOM and HESCOM.

“Sunsure led the development of these plants right from the competitive bidding stage through land acquisition and clearances all the way to successfully synchronizing the plants with the grid. Sunsure is now tasked with ensuring these plants perform optimally. Sunsure will be deploying its operations & maintenance systems at both the sites in FY19,” said the company in a statement released.

Overall, it has commissioned over 40 MW of solar PV plants across nine Indian states.
