China’s JinkoSolar has become the first global player to complete 8 GW of solar panel shipments to India. The company was India’s largest panel supplier in the first quarter of 2022.

It captured a market share of 24%, with shipments reaching 2 GW during the first quarter, according to JMK Research. This is the most capacity shipped by any manufacturer to India in a given quarter.

Bridge to India’s quarterly report also put JinkoSolar in the top spot, both for shipments (2,039 MW) and commissioned capacity (893 MW) in the first quarter. The company shipped more than 3.5 GW of panels to India in the fourth quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 alone.

“The PV industry has had its own set of challenges recently – with skyrocketing prices, supply chain issues, demand-supply gaps,” said Daniel Liu, general managers (South and Central Asia) for JinkoSolar.
