Deepak Thakur joins Mahindra Susten as CEO

Mahindra Group has appointed Deepak Thakur as the new managing director and chief executive officer of Mahindra Susten, its cleantech arm. In this role, Thakur will oversee the group’s renewables businesses, comprising Mahindra Solarize and Mahindra TEQO apart from Mahindra Susten. He will directly report to Anish Shah, managing director and CEO of Mahindra Group.

Before joining Mahindra, Thakur was leader-renewables and energy storage (executive vice president) at Reliance Industries Ltd, where he built the strategic direction of the group’s new energy vertical. He was actively involved in mergers and acquisitions.

Thakur has also led Sterling and Wilson’s hybrid and energy storage business as CEO. In this role, he was instrumental in strategy formulation for the company’s foray into the hybrid energy EPC space. He also formulated a strategic plan for Sterling and Wilson’s entry into the electric-vehicle charging business. In addition, he led negotiations to conclude a 50:50 joint venture with Enel X.

Mahindra Susten is a leading independent power producer (IPP) with a portfolio of more than 1.5 GWp. It is also executing in-house IPP projects.
