The government of India has approved eight solar parks with an aggregate capacity of 4,995 MW in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. The proposed solar parks include Jalaun Solar Park with a capacity of 1.2 GW, Chhatarpur Solar Park 950 MW, Chitrakoot Solar Park 800 MW, Barethi Solar Park 630 MW, Lalitpur Solar Park 600 MW, Jhansi Solar Park 600 MW, UP Solar Park (Jalaun District site) 150 MW, and Kalpi Solar Park 65 MW.
The 1.2 GW Jalaun Solar Park, the largest of the approved capacity in Bundelkhand, is being set up by Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL), a joint venture of state-owned hydropower producer NHPC Ltd and Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). BSUL plans to develop the 1.2 GW renewable energy park in the Jalaun district in a phased manner with 600 MW of the cumulative capacity to be set up in Madhogarh tehsil by Sept. 2024 and another 600 MW in Orail tehsil by Dec. 2024.
