State-owned NLC India Ltd. (formerly Neyveli Lignite Corp.) is seeking the consultancy services of WAPCOS Ltd, a public-sector enterprise under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, as it ventures into the development of pumped hydro storage.
The two parties recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on pumped storage and hydropower projects.
“The rationale for signing the MOU with WAPCOS is for carrying out collaborative technical services and advisories for the development of various pumped storage, reservoir/storage, run-of-river hydropower projects in India,” stated NLC.
WAPCOS is engaged in engineering consultancy services and construction in the water, power, and infrastructure sectors in India and oversea. Pumped storage is one of its fields of specialization.
NLC aims to increase its renewable power generation capacity to 6.03 GW by 2030 from 1 GW+ by implementing various solar and wind projects. In December last year, it signed an MoU with Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) to set up ground-mounted/floating solar power, pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen, and other renewable projects.
