Hygenco to develop Maharashtra’s first green hydrogen project

Share

Hygenco Green Energies (Hygenco), a green hydrogen and green ammonia solutions provider, has signed a long-term green hydrogen and green oxygen offtake agreement with Sterlite Technologies Ltd (STL), a global optical and digital solutions company.

As part of this agreement, Hygenco will construct and operate a 100% green hydrogen plant in Maharashtra and supply green hydrogen and green oxygen to STL’s state-of-the-art glass preform plant located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, over a long term.

The project would be the first operative green hydrogen production facility in the state of Maharashtra.

“Hygenco continues its collaboration with industry; particularly the hard-to-abate sectors to facilitate adoption of green hydrogen as a commercially viable alternative to grey hydrogen and achieve their sustainability objectives. This agreement with STL is another step by Hygenco to provide customized, and reliable green hydrogen solutions,” said Amit Bansal, CEO of Hygenco Green Energies.

With this project, STL will also become the first optical fibre manufacturer globally to deploy 100% green hydrogen in its operations. The project aligns with STL’s strategic objectives of achieving net zero emissions by 2030.

“Our partnership with Hygenco marks a significant stride towards achieving sustainability goals. This emphasises our commitment to providing greener optical solutions with low carbon footprint,” said Ankit Agarwal, managing director of STL.
