China’s Sunpure Technology has secured a contract with Indian multinational EPC provider Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply robotic PV cleaning systems for the 805 MWp Ar Rass 1 solar PV independent power plant (IPP) located in Al Qassim, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Sunpure said it will supply over 1,500 PV cleaning robots that are specifically designed for arid climates. The robots are fully automated and waterless, reducing O&M efforts and conserving water. “By integrating the new technology of LoRaWAN, Sunpure’s PV cleaning system improves communication stability and integrates seamlessly with the single-axis tracking system, enhancing power generation and lowering the project’s LCOE,” it added.
The project is a part of KSA’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) and is scheduled to enter into commercial operation by 2024. Upon completion, it is expected to power around 132,000 households and offset 1.5 million tons of emissions annually.
