Uttar Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd (UPPCL) has invited bids from developers to set up standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) with a storage capacity of 1,200 MWh (300 MW x 4 hours) in Uttar Pradesh. The winning developer will make the energy storage facility available to UPPCL for charging/discharging on an “on demand” basis as required during peak and off-peak hours. The BESS may be charged by any source of energy, including conventional energy sources.
The developers will be selected through tariff-based competitive bidding. Bids can be made for any capacity from 50 MW to 300 MW, in multiples of 50 MW.
The winning developers will set up the BESS on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis at identified load centers in Uttar Pradesh. Maximum 100 MW of the storage capacity is planned near 132 kV Substation in the Hathras district and 200 MW at 765 kV Substation in the Unnao district.
UPPCL will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with the successful developers. The full project capacity must be commissioned within 18 months from the signing of the BESPA.
