The state government of Uttar Pradesh is planning installation of solar power plants along both sides of the 296-km Bundelkhand Expressway.
Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), in its study, found that 450 MW of solar power plants can be installed on both sides of the highway. The detailed project report (DPR) prepared by GEAPP has been approved by the state government, Saurabh Kumar, vice-chairman of GEAPP, told PTI.
GEAPP has estimated the cost of the Bundelkhand Expressway solar project at around INR 1,800 crore and the price of electricity produced from it to be INR 4 to 4.50 ($0.048-$0.054) per kWh.
GEAPP is now assisting Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in bidding for the project. “We hope that the project will be ready for commissioning in the next 15 months,” said Kumar.
Kumar revealed said that UPEIDA has asked GEAPP to conduct similar studies for four other expressways in the state.
