NHPC Ltd has launched a tender to select developers for setting up 1.2 GW of grid-connected solar PV power projects with energy storage systems (ESS) and additional capacity up to 1.2 GW with ESS under “Greenshoe Option.”
ESS of at least 0.5 MW/1 MWh capacity for 1 MW contracted capacity shall mandatorily be installed as part of the project. ESS charged using a source other than solar power would not qualify as solar power.
The projects are to be set up on the land to be identified and arranged by the developers anywhere in India. The solar power produced by the selected developers from their respective solar PV plus ESS will be purchased by NHPC and would be sold to the State utilities/Discoms/any other beneficiaries. After conclusion of the bidding process, NHPC will enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the selected bidders, for purchase of solar power for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commencement of supply date of the project.
The minimum project size is 50 MW (with a minimum ESS component of 25 MW/50 MWh) and in multiples of 10 MW thereafter under Open category. The cumulative capacity offered should not exceed 600 MW (with a minimum ESS component of 300 MW/600MWh) without “Greenshoe Option” and 1,200 MW (with a minimum ESS component of 600 MW/1,200 MWh) for a bidder with “Greenshoe Option.” For projects located in North-Eastern States and Special Category, the minimum quantum of capacity that can be offered by a developer shall be 30 MW (with a minimum ESS component of 15 MW/30 MWh).
