The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) have launched a six-day training course titled ‘Green Hydrogen Policy Accelerator Training Course’ in New Delhi. This is the second in the series, with the first edition being hosted in Cairo, Egypt, in August 2024.
The course aims to strengthen ISA’s Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre (GHIC) platform and equip government officials with expertise in renewable energy, green hydrogen production, applications, and policy development.
The GHIC functions as a dynamic hub, providing extensive information on the green hydrogen sector. It was created by ISA, in partnership with Asian Development Bank, under the G20 India Presidency, to support ISA Member Countries in the production, utilisation, and trade of green hydrogen, besides providing a platform for knowledge sharing and building competency across the green hydrogen value chain.
In his welcome address, Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, said, “Focus of this [six-day] training is to strengthen the capacity of government officials with in-depth knowledge and expertise in the green hydrogen sector. This initiative is aligned with the mandate of our GHIC initiative to drive the energy transition, with a special emphasis on Africa, LAC, and Asia Pacific in the green hydrogen space.”
Jonas Moberg, CEO, Green Hydrogen Organisation, added, “We are focusing on creating favourable market conditions, from clear market rules to effective incentives. The goal is to ensure everyone is involved in this effort so we can effectively compete against high carbon emissions. If society correctly accounted for the cost of emissions, the situation would be very different. In many markets, solar energy paired with battery storage has become the most affordable power generation, even during nighttime. What we are hoping to achieve this week is a clear agenda that highlights both the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
The week-long training will help participants gain in-depth knowledge of large-scale renewable energy and green hydrogen and learn from industry leaders. Immersive deep dives into country-specific policies will help cultivate a strong community among senior officials, fostering collaboration and synergy in advancing their respective countries’ green hydrogen initiatives. Proceedings from the workshop will also contribute to the Green Hydrogen Enabling Environment Course Book 2024, scheduled to be published at COP29 later this year.
GH2 is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to accelerating the production and use of green hydrogen. It works with governments, industry, and civil society to develop green hydrogen policies, standards, and projects contributing to a sustainable and resilient global energy system.
The International Solar Alliance is an international organisation with 120 Member and Signatory countries. It works with governments to improve energy access and security worldwide and promote solar power as a sustainable transition to a carbon-neutral future. ISA’s mission is to unlock US$ 1 trillion of investments in solar by 2030 while reducing the cost of the technology and its financing. It promotes the use of solar energy in agriculture, health, transport and power generation sectors.
