Kerala launches 125 MW/500 MWh battery storage tender

Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) has issued a tender for selection of developers to set up 125 MW/ 500 MWh of battery energy storage system in Kerala for “on demand” usage by KSEBL.

The winning developer will set up, operate and maintain the BESS with the primary objective of making the energy storage facility available to the buying entity [KSEBL] for charging/discharging of the BESS, on an “on demand” basis.

The project is eligible for grant of central financial assistance in the form of viability gap funding.

SECI, as an intermediary nodal agency, will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with the successful bidders. Energy storage facility to be procured by SECI from the BESS has been provisioned to be sold to KSEBL.

“The BESS should be designed to provide a minimum of four hours of discharging capacity at rated power. However, KSEBL, at its sole discretion, can schedule the discharging of the BESS in one or two sessions each day, at rated power or stretching up to eight Hours when discharged below rated power,” reads the tender document.
