Oriano has announced the commissioning of a 211.2 MW AC (295 MW DC) solar PV project in the Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, for captive consumption by ArcelorMittal Nippon Group.
The capacity is part of an overall 975 MW of central transmission utility (CTU) connected hybrid renewable energy project being developed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) to decarbonize its steel production operations. The 975 MW project includes a 661 MW (925 MWp) solar power component and a 314 MW wind power component, to be integrated with a pumped hydro storage facility owned by Greenko, to ensure round-the-clock power.
The 975 MW RE project, wholly owned by AM/NS India, is expected to meet more than 20% of electricity requirements of AM/NS India’ Hazira plant in Gujarat and help offset AM/NS India’s carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes per annum. For transmission of power from Kurnool to Hazira, the solar and wind sites connect to the interstate transmission system through 400 kV transmission lines.
Oriano was awarded with 295 MW DC solar and operations and maintenance for 354 MW DC project.
“The land was graded and rocky boulders were collected and dumped at distant location using 40+ heavy machineries for almost five months in parallel to project construction. Daily 5+ MWp of piling was done using 14+ high-pressure borewell DTH (down-the-hole) simultaneously, due to hard terrain,” said Oriano.
