NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) has invited proposals for supply of energy from interstate transmission system (ISTS) connected standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) to be set up for an aggregate storage capacity of 1,000 MWh (250 MW x 4 hours) with single-cycle charging/discharging operation of the BESS. It seeks to procure energy from these energy storage systems, on an ‘on-demand’ basis, suited to requirements during peak and off-peak hours.
Developer selected by NVVN will set up BESS on a build-own-operate basis. The projects can be located anywhere in India and connect to the ISTS substation. NVVN will enter into a battery energy discharge purchase agreement with the developer for a period of 12 years. Energy procured by NVVN from these systems has been provisioned for sale through power exchange, bilateral tieup with Discoms, or TRAS Ancillary Services. The BESS charging power supply is under the scope of the developer.
The projects are eligible for viability gap funding support (VGF). NVVN may allocate additional capacity up to 250 MW/1,000 MWh under greenshoe option.
