Group Surya secures EPC package for solar hydrogen microgrid in Ladakh

Group Surya announced this week its arm Surya International has won EPC package for a solar-hydrogen-BESS based 200 kW microgrid at Chushul, Ladakh. This project was tendered by NTPC REL, a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd.

The microgrid project, undertaken in collaboration with NTPC and the Indian Army, marks a significant step in harnessing green hydrogen for round-the-clock power supply in off-grid defense locations under extreme climatic conditions. The system will eliminate reliance on diesel generators, reducing carbon emissions by 1,500 tons per year and fostering a clean, self-sustaining energy ecosystem.

“Valued at INR 102 crore, this advanced solar-hydrogen microgrid will generate 200 kW/hour of continuous power throughout the year. The project will be designed to withstand temperatures as low as -30°C and function at an altitude of 4,400 meters,” stated Group Surya.

This marks Surya International’s third hydrogen project. Previously, it has executed a hydrogen mobility station project in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, for the National Hydroelectric Power Corp. (NHPC), and alkaline hydrogen electrolyzer design and manufacturing for HPCL in Bangalore, developed with BARC’s technology support.
