Premier Energies Ltd, one of India’s largest integrated solar cell and module manufacturers, has teamed up with Germany-based RENA Technologies GmbH, a global leader in wet chemical process equipment, to advance high-efficiency solar cell manufacturing, targeting breakthroughs in cell performance, production throughput, and sustainable manufacturing processes.
This strategic alliance focuses on process innovations for n-type solar cells and the development of wet chemistry techniques for next-generation tandem solar cells. Tandem cells have two or more layers of different PV materials stacked together to capture more sunlight and improve solar cell efficiency and output.
The collaboration combines Premier Energies’ large-scale manufacturing capabilities with RENA’s advanced wet chemistry and equipment solutions.
Sudhir Reddy, director and chief strategy officer, Premier Energies, said, “This partnership positions Premier at the forefront of the n-type efficiency curve and paves the way for our advancement into tandem cell development—an essential step in the evolution of solar cell technology.”
Chandra Mauli Kumar, chief production officer, Premier Energies, added: “For India to compete at the cutting edge of solar technology, closer collaboration with equipment manufacturers is critical. This partnership will help us achieve higher throughput, better efficiencies, and a lower manufacturing carbon footprint.”
RENA Technologies, a supplier of wet chemical equipment and process solutions for semiconductor, glass, medical technology, and solar industries, views this partnership as an opportunity to advance in the Indian solar market.
Peter Schneidewind, CEO, RENA Technologies GmbH, said, “This is a great opportunity for RENA to work closely with a leading Indian cell manufacturer using our latest tools to deliver better products, reduce consumables, and lower the carbon footprint of solar cell production. We look forward to optimizing outcomes together.”
Sebastian Kress, COO, RENA Technologies, said, “This partnership is a key strategic step in ensuring RENA’s proximity to the dynamic Indian solar market and in strengthening our leadership as a global equipment supplier and technology expert.”
Currently, Premier Energies has a total manufacturing capacity of 8 GW for solar cells (of which 6 GW is under construction) and 9.13 GW for solar modules (of which 5 GW is under construction).
RENA Technologies RENA Technologies GmbH is a supplier of wet chemical equipment and process solutions for semiconductor, glass, medical technology, and solar industries. The company is known for its innovation in surface treatment technologies and for delivering customized, high-efficiency solutions that drive performance and sustainability.
