India’s Aegeus Technologies has developed an autonomous, water-free cleaning bot for rooftop solar installations. The bot weighs 5 kg (with battery) and can be operated remotely through a web-based app. It uses an air wash technology to clean the panels, ensuring no need for water or any harmful chemicals.
In large-scale solar, Adani was the largest developer by capacity, and Sterling & Wilson the preferred EPC partner. Tata Power Solar led in rooftop solar installations.
The solar panel-cleaning robot startup, which saw its sales jump 125 times last year, has thus far raised three levels of funding amounting to INR 2 crore from government bodies in India, Dubai, and Canada.
Bids are invited to supply, install and commission a module cleaning system for the entire solar plant. The work scope also includes operation and maintenance support for three months after commissioning.
The Israeli developer of module cleaning robots has bagged an order from Indian solar developer Azure Power to deploy its water-free cleaning solution across a 450 MW solar project in Rajasthan.
With the latest robotic cleaning offering, the startup aims to capture the residential solar market that currently stands at a capacity of 4400 MW and is expected to reach 8500 MW by the end of 2020.
The inefficiency and irregularity of cleaning the solar panels manually, and the associated use of water defeat the purpose of shifting to renewable energies.
The winning startups will receive lab-to-market incubation support at the Clean Energy International Incubation Centre (CEIIC), which has been set up by the not-for-profit platform Social Alpha with support from Government of India and Tata Trusts in Delhi.
The Israeli developer of module cleaning robots—which has secured over 7 GW of projects globally—will deploy its connected and water-free E4 solution for Fortum projects in Pavagada and Bhadla solar parks.
