Apraava Energy, India’s leading integrated energy solutions provider, today announced the successful commissioning of its largest wind power project with the capacity of 250.7 MW (comprising 120 no. of 2.1MW rated Suzlon WTGs) located at Sidhpur in Devbhoomi Dwaraka district, Gujarat. The project was awarded to Apraava Energy as part of the Tranche VIII wind tender sponsored by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). With this addition, Apraava’s operational wind portfolio now stands at ~1200 MW.
Commenting on this achievement, Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director, Apraava Energy, said, “As early adopters of wind energy in India, this milestone further solidifies our foothold in the wind industry. I am incredibly proud of our team, our OEM partner, Suzlon, and our local project development partners for their dedication to maintain the highest operational standards in completing this project. Gujarat remains a pivotal hub for expanding our low-carbon energy portfolio, and we thank the state for its constant support. Our commitment to helping India achieve its green energy goals is stronger than ever.”
The Sidhpur wind project has secured a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with SECI for 25 years at a competitive tariff of INR 2.83/kWh. The project incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, such as advanced fire-suppression systems and sophisticated condition monitoring systems for wind turbine generators (WTGs).
Apraava’s community interventions in the Sidhpur region cover integrated development of 12 villages with a specific focus on livelihood, water and sanitation and women empowerment. Key activities include strengthening village institutions, farm-based livelihood management, building water security in the area and natural resources management, youth skilling initiatives, and working with women self-help groups. In addition to the Sidhpur wind project, Apraava operates two wind projects: 50.4 MW in Mahidad and 100.8 MW in Samana. The company has also recently been awarded a project to install ~ 2.3 million smart meters in Gujarat. Two decades ago, Apraava began its journey in India by operating a 655 MW gas-based combined-cycle power plant in Bharuch, Gujarat, and successfully completed its tenure under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
About Apraava Energy
Apraava Energy is India’s leading integrated energy solutions provider head quartered in Mumbai. It is jointly owned by the CLP Group —one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) —a global investment group.
Founded in 2002, Apraava has evolved from being a single-asset business to a forward looking, climate-conscious organisation. Its portfolio comprises 3,394 MW of installed capacity which includes ~1200 MW of wind and 250 MW of solar energy projects, a 1320 MW coal-fired super critical power plant and two power transmission assets (~494 kms), all spread across 11 states. In addition, four greenfield transmission projects (~500 kms of transmission lines and substations with over 10 GW of combined capacity), a wind project (300 MW) and three solar projects (600 MW) are under construction. The company has also forayed into Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) business and is executing orders of ~6.8 million smart meters in Assam, Gujarat, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Apraava Energy is among the handful of Indian power sector companies to commit to the SBTi and only the second in the sector to have them validated.
Going ahead, the company will only invest in low-carbon growth areas, including renewable energy, power transmission and distribution, as well as other non-generation, customer-focused energy businesses.
