Asia-Pacific T&D project contracts activity up 45% in Q1 2021

There were 29 T&D project contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2021, marking a rise of 45% over the last four-quarter average of 20, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2021 with 157 contracts and a 44.4% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 80 contracts and a 22.6% share and Electricity Procurement with 71 contracts and a 20.1% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  • Project implementation: 21 contracts and a 72.4% share
  • Consulting & similar services: seven contracts and a 24.1% share
  • Repair, maintenance, upgrade & others: one contract and a 3.4% share.

Wind tops in contracted projects

Looking at T&D project contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, wind accounted for four contracts with a 36.4% share in Q1 2021, followed by solar with three contracts and a 27.3% share and thermal with three contracts and a 27.3% share.

Top T&D issuers by capacity

The top issuer of T&D project contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific was: China Nuclear Shandong Energy (China) with 200MW from one contract.

The top winners of T&D contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  • China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 200MW from one contract
  • China Gezhouba Group (China): 84MW from one contract.
