The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), the apex industry body representing India’s renewable energy sector, is proud to announce the appointment of Shri. Prakash Chand Garg as NSEFI’s new Honorary Principal Advisor. Shri Garg’s extensive experience and expertise in the power sector will play a pivotal role in furthering NSEFI’s mission of accelerating India’s renewable energy transition.
Shri PC Garg’s illustrious career spans over 37 years in the power sector, during which he has held diverse and impactful roles. As a seasoned professional, he has contributed significantly to the development, operation, and maintenance of Extra High Voltage (EHV) Sub Stations and Transmission Lines. His work encompasses both the operational and construction aspects of these critical infrastructures.
Prior to his association with NSEFI, Shri Garg served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Central Transmission Utility (CTU). As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Central Transmission Utility (CTUIL), Shri Garg was responsible for overseeing ISTS planning, including the approval for connectivity and grant of open access to ISTS. He played an instrumental role in policy advocacy and the evolution of regulations in the power sector, facilitating the opening of the transmission sector to competition as envisioned under the Electricity Act 2003. Additionally, he was deeply involved in the implementation of the transmission segment of renewable energy capacity goals, focusing on the seamless integration of renewable energy plants with the national grid through a ‘plug-and-play’ model.
His leadership was key in the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as VSC-based HVDC, Statcoms, Synchronous Condensers, and Dynamic Line Loading, all contributing to grid stability and reliability, especially in light of India’s goal to integrate 500GW of renewable energy by 2030.
Shri Garg’s career also includes serving as Executive Director of Western Region-II in POWERGRID, where his leadership in key regional projects significantly enhanced grid reliability and capacity. His tenure at POWERGRID, which began in 1991, was marked by major contributions to the national grid infrastructure. Before joining POWERGRID, he served in NTPC for approximately four years, where he significantly contributed his valuable insights into Power Systems.
Speaking on the appointment, Shri. Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NSEFI, said, “We are delighted to have Shri PC Garg join us as Principal Advisor.
