Women should be in the centre of energy transition, says Finance Minister at NSEFI’s Women in Energy Event.

The National Solar Energy Federation of India organised an event on women in the Energy sector on 21st November 2022. The event by NSEFI created a platform for bringing women stakeholders across different industries, roles, sectors to get a holistic perspective on how the renewable energy sector creates an avenue to discuss women involvement. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

Pranav R Mehta, Chairman, NSEFI delivered the Welcome Remarks where he mentioned that “No energy is bigger than Women energy and Women play an important role in every sector to bring the transformation.”

Hon’ble Finance Minister Delivered the Inaugural Address where she mentioned that “The focus of the nation has shifted from women development to women led development. In order to achieve this, Government and different organizations are working around the clock by involving women in every key sector and bring systematic changes to the sector and livelihood of society, which focuses on how to maximize women’s access to Energy, Education, and Ease of Doing Business. She elaborated on the ways in which solar energy can now generate income for women, and the role of bank
support in financially empowering India.”

Hon’ble Finance Minister also launched the Women in Solar Energy (WISE) portal. Women in Solar Energy Portal is a platform for all women looking for guidance to work in the energy sector and to explore job opportunities. This portal also features leading women in solar energy field as mentors who will mentor the women who want to pursue their career in Solar energy sector. The Portal will have different training modules made by these mentor to train the women in different aspects of solar energy sector. The objective of the portal is to enable green energy transition by advancing women’s leadership in the energy sector which will lead to social progress and eventually help in empowering the economy. NSEFI in partnership with Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) introduced the Women in Solar Energy(WISE) Portal.

The Hon’ble Finance Minister also interacted with Women Beneficiaries and Entrepreneurs in Energy Sector who are working in villages and proliferating the energy transition at community level especially in Rural areas.

The event is also graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Vandana Kumar, Additional Secretary, Rajya Sabha, Former Additional Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Ms. Suman Sharma, Managing Director, Solar Energy Cooperation of India Ltd.
