The German EPC player has hit the 1 GWp milestone of installed PV capacity in India with the delivery of a 250 MW solar plant for Fortum. Around 40% of the plant is equipped with high-performance bifacial modules.
The state has reached an installed solar capacity of 7,738 MW. With this, it has replaced Karnataka to become the PV energy leader in India.
Insolation Energy director Vikas Jain told pv magazine about their plans to expand solar panel manufacturing capacity to 700 MW with the addition of a 500 MW facility. The new facility would be equipped to produce poly, mono, mono PERC, and bifacial panels with individual panel output up to 600 Wp.
The solar project, located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, benefits from a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India. It shall supply the electricity generated to the state of Bihar at a tariff of INR 2.55/kWh (US$ 0.035).

UPC-AC Energy Solar, a joint venture of UPC Solar and AC Energy, has commissioned two solar farms aggregating to 210 MW (150 MW AC) capacity, including 140 MW (100 MW AC) in Rajasthan and 70 MW (50 MW AC) in Gujarat. It has a further 420 MW (300 MW AC) solar assets scheduled for construction in Madhya Pradesh as it aims for about 1 GW of operating PV capacity in India by 2023.
The Indian developer will build a 1,300 MW hybrid renewable energy capacity (900 MW wind plus 400 MW solar) supplemented with storage to ensure a round-the-clock supply. The project cost is estimated at approximately US$ 1.2 billion.
Italy’s Enel Green Power is developing the solar project in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan. The total project cost is approximately US$200 million.
The state-owned hydropower producer has already identified the land for the solar project in village Deora of the Jaisalmer district. It shall acquire the land on a long-team lease basis to develop the project.
